First steps

Firstly, we will talk to you in depth so that we can build up an accurate history of your past dental and medical experiences.

You will find that your requirements are listened to with careful attention before any clinical examinations take place, and you will be looked after as an individual in a caring, unhurried, relaxed atmosphere.

Only after you have communicated all information to us and we have answered all your questions will you then be carefully and gently examined. If the first problem is pain we will of course deal with this immediately.

Digital X-rays

During the initial consultation digital X-rays are used to detect problems of the teeth and gums.

This means that there is no waiting for X-rays to be developed as they show immediately on the computer screen and with greater clarity than ever before. In addition, radiation is reduced by markedly compared to traditional x-rays. Today our X-rays are safer than they have ever been.

Possible outcomes

We are usually able to give new patients a broad picture of what is necessary to restore the teeth to maximum health and function. If your case suggests that you will benefit from specialist treatments such as invisible braces, then we will explain these options in detail.

More specifically, the initial assessment is likely to result in one of four possible outcomes, each of which will be clearly explained:
  1. You are not yet ready for treatment, in which case you might need to see the orthodontist again when you are older.
  2. Your dental health is not good enough. This may be due to poor tooth brushing or decayed teeth. Your dentist may send you to the orthodontist again when things have improved.
  3. You do not need treatment because the position of your teeth is perfectly acceptable, or expected to be.
  4. You are ready for treatment and need to decide whether to go ahead.

Cost of initial consultation

The cost of an initial consultation is £100. An alternative option is to book a 15 minute meeting to talk about your potential requirements with a treatment co-ordinator which is free of charge.
