May 2007 - abscesses treated with root canal treatment, an implant, and crownsThis lady was referred to us by her dentist for treatment of chronic abscesses on her two upper front teeth. These two teeth had crowns fitted previously, and the upper right central incisor had been root treated before. She complained that she didn’t like the space between the crowns, and that they appeared dull and artificial. She insisted that she would not be prepared to wear a temporary partial denture.
The infection on the upper left central incisor was cleared up by performing conventional root canal treatment. The upper right central incisor had a fracture of the root, and we decided to extract this tooth and replace it with a dental implant. The tooth was removed very carefully to preserve the surrounding bone, and an implant placed directly into the socket. A temporary crown was fitted onto the implant immediately afterwards.
After a healing period of 4 months, metal-free crowns were fitted onto the natural root as well as onto the implant. |
